Thomas Ruud, tenor

Born in Oslo, Thomas Ruud studied with Jess Thomas , with George Buckbee (in California) and with Dietrich Schneider (in Munich).

He made his debut as Conte Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with the Norwegian National Opera and sang this part more than 150 times.

Thomas Ruud performed the most of the lyric and lirico-spinto tenor repertoire in the whole Scandinavian region singing parts such as Rodolfo in ‘La Boheme’, Cavaradossi in ‘Tosca’, Tebaldo in ‘I Capuleti e I Montecchi’, Duca in ‘Rigoletto’, Turiddu in ‘Cavalleria rusticana’, Danilo and Camille in â€˜Die lustige Witwe’.

He gave concerts in the USA, Spain, New Zealand and Mexico in addition.

Thomas Ruud has been in fixed engagement with Staatsoper Hannover for two seasons.

From 2006 - 2010 he was a member of the soloist ensemble of Staatsoper Stuttgart.

He has since performed Cavaradossi in Tosca, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Steva in Jenůfa, Alfredo in La Traviata, Pollione in Norma, (all in Stuttgart). He also performed Manrico in Il Trovatore (Theater Lübeck), Giasone in Medea by Cherubini (Bern, Schweiz), and Steva in Jenufa (Oper Leipzig).

He sang Don José in Carmen (Nordfjordeid/Norway), Cavaradossi in Tosca  (Stuttgart), Steva again in Jenufa(Leipzig) Don José in Oslo his debut in The Tales of Hofmann (Hofmann) in November 2010. He did Don José again in September 2011 also in Norway.

In June 2011 Thomas Ruud had a big success  in concert together with the famous Soprano Kiri TeKanawa.

In August 2011 he did a very successful Verdi Requiem in St.Olav Festival conducted by Eivind Gullberg Jensen.

He also sang the Tenor part in Dvorak’s Die Geisterbraut in Nürnberg und Darmstadt (Germany) in June/July 2011.

Upcoming Projects are in 2012 u.a. Stabat Mater in Helsinki, in Norway Gounaud’s Faust, La Bohème and a new production of Madama Butterfly in Nordfjordeid. As well a the very successful Christmas Tour with Hanne Krogh.
